Victoria and Vanessa

Their parents came to the USA before the girls were born because they wanted to provide a better life. One with opportunity. They lived in a beautiful house with beautiful dresses and huge, expensive hair bows.  They rarely smiled.

Could have been the shoes.

Bravely Lucy stepped off of the pier, her cousin encouraging her to jump.

“Do it Lucy! Do it!” She said.

Lucy didn’t jump quickly after the walk up the ladder.

It took her several, long minutes before her feet left the wood.

While she was waiting to dive she thought about being brave.

Her uncle was in a boat taking her picture.

Waiting for her to dive.

Go ahead already, he was thinking.

She bit the inside of her arm.

Then she got the courage to jump.

She got the courage to do a lot of things

and she attributed it to the jump that day.
